1/30/2024 0 Comments Mandalorian face reveal![]() But there’s the promise of more to come with the Mandalorian’s new quest to find Baby Yoda’s other Yodas, and the one cliffhanger we do get is the reveal of the Darksaber in the possession of the Moff, who we know led the massacre of the Mandalorians and probably acquired it that way, given that it’s a famed weapon of Mandalore with past appearances in shows like Clone Wars or Rebels.ĭirected by Taika Waititi (of Thor Ragnarok and What We Do In The Shadows fame) and written by Jon Favreau, it would have been nearly impossible for this episode to be bad, given that level of talent. It’s not the kind of cliffhanger where you have to tune in next year to see if your heroes survive, there’s an actual ending. ![]() It’s sad, but a good way to honor both IG and Kuiil all the same. The IG unit sacrifices itself so the group can escape, fulfilling its prime directive that Quill programmed him for, protecting the child. He does save them from a flame trooper at one point with the force, but that exhaust him and later when Greef tries to get him to use his “magic hands” to take down the Moff’s TIE Fighter, Baby Yoda simply waves at him. This should prove difficult because Yoda’s species is so rare it doesn’t even have a name (hence why we’ve all been calling him “Baby Yoda” this entire time), much less a home planet, so it’s quite the task.īaby Yoda was not used as a deux ex machina to save the day, which I loved, as that would have been too easy. But since Baby Yoda is…a baby, and cannot be trained in traditional, brutal Mandalorian fashion, his new mission is to find his race of “enemy sorcerers” and return him to them. She tells Mando that he’s tasked with caring for the foundling, Baby Yoda, as if it were his own child, just like he was taken care of as a boy when he was saved by Mandalorian troopers, which we see in an extended flashback. Because once zombies show up, it’s almost impossible to get rid of them. The group all escapes to the old Mandalorian hideout where only the Smith remains after the others have fled or have been massacred. That has Star Wars zombies written all over it.īut whatever happens, Lucasfilm will need to think carefully before unleashing Project Blackwing into the Star Wars galaxy for a third time. Will she turn up a few zombies in the process? And then there’s Skeleton Crew, another upcoming Mando-verse show that’s been compared to Stranger Things. Meanwhile, the upcoming Ahsoka will likely venture even further into the darkest corners of the galaxy in its star’s search for Ezra Bridger. That premise could be the perfect way for him to come across a zombie-infested ship like the one Han Solo and Chewbacca encountered in Death Troopers. Mandalorian Season 4 looks set to send Din Djarin on a series of missions rooting out any remaining Imperial holdouts. Still, there’s plenty of room for zombies in The Mandalorian and its various spinoffs. It’s admittedly a stretch to suggest that a zombie invasion is imminent in the Star Wars galaxy, especially when the only canonical precedent is a defunct video game that Lucasfilm would probably prefer we forget about entirely. And fans have noticed a (weak) clue to their existence in the Mando-verse. So we’ve established that zombies exist in Star Wars. Disney Interactive Zombies in The Mandalorian Season 4? Zombie Stormtroopers in Star Wars: Commander. There was also a second outbreak, which the Rebel Alliance managed to put down. Later, rumors spread that several criminal syndicates got their hands on Blackwing samples. This led to a rare moment of cooperation where the Empire and the Rebel Alliance worked together (or at least, in parallel) to stop the outbreak. In the game’s story, set in the years leading up to A New Hope, the Blackwing virus zombified an entire army of Imperial troopers on the planet Dandoran. Instead, it turns living people into undead zombies. The “sickness” was created by mistake in an effort to bring dead tissue back to life. In the technically canonical game, Blackwing was developed by Sith scientists who mixed science and magic in their search for immortality - a classic Palpatine endeavor. ![]() In 2014, Disney Interactive released the mobile strategy game Star Wars: Commander, and Project Blackwing was re-born. ![]() The galaxy far away was zombie-free again, but the respite didn’t last long. When Disney bought Lucasfilm in 2012, all the old Star Wars books and comics were officially de-canonized and rebranded as Star Wars Legends.
